The Paul

26th September 1918

Built in 1880 as the "Ballochbuie" by Hall, Russell & Co. of Aberdeen the 659 ton iron steamship was sunk by a torpedo from UB-21 in the middle of the Bay. She was in ballast travelling from Cean to the Tyne.

The German submarine, a coastal attack boat, was commanded by Bruno Mahn at the time. The UB-21 surrendered on 24th November 1918 and in 1920 sank in the Solent while being towed to a breakers yard.
