"Mary Mea"

29th January 1860

The brig "Mary Mea" bound to Hartlepool from Wivenhoe, Essex came ashore on the North Cheek at 2am. The wind was SSE with snow showers. Captain Brown of London and his crew made the shore in the ships boat. Three cobles got her off with the rudder gone and her hull damaged. The "Esk" towed her to Scarborough for £70.
