While returning to her home port of Hull in thick fog the 148ton screw steam trawler "Mandalay" became stranded at Ravenscar. The vessel owned by the Beeching Trawler Company of Hull was severely damaged on the rocks and her hold was soon flooded. The crew abandoned her and made the shore unassisted. The trawler became a total wreck.

A few years earlier on the 21st October 1904 the "Mandalay" was one of the fishing vessels damaged in "The Dogger Bank Incident" where the Russian Baltic Fleet fired upon the defenceless trawlers of the Gamecock Fleet, having mistaken them for Japanes War Ships. One of the trawlers, the "Crane" was sunk and two of her crew killed.
