Fearless
30th
April 1901
Returning from the fishing grounds in
thick fog the Scarborough steam trawler "Fearless"
struck Blue Wyke, Ravenscar at about 2pm.
The tide was high, so it would not be possible
to float the vessel off. The crew took to
the ships boat and rowed to Scarborough,
leaving the Captain aboard to await assistance.
The tug "Admiral" of Scarborough
failed to pull the "Fearless" off
the rocks but was able to save the stores
and cargo of fish. The trawlers bottom was
badly holed and salvage work was quickly started
using a tug and coble from Scarborough.
