"Duke of Buccleuch"

20th December 1862

The old Gale lifeboat was brought into service once again when the brig "Duke of Buccleuch" came ashore in the middle of Robin Hood's Bay. The crew, who had lashed them selves to the rigging, were taken off by the Lifeboat. The brig was loaded with granite. A local man bought the wreck and her cargo which is still at the bottom of the sea.
