Drilling Rig

October 1991

Contracted to survey the Bay for a planned extension to the sewerage out fall pipe. The Essex rig was left on the scaur ends as a storm blew in, by the next morning it was washed off it's 14foot long legs and wrecked on Cowling Scar. Debris turned up all along the beach, the self inflating life raft was recovered by RHBay CG OW.

The rigg was eventually patched up and floated off. I believe that parts of it were used in the construction of Whitby's new dredger.

Calm before the storm,

Rig washed up, on the rocks off Cowling Scar,

one of the jacking legs in Peak Hole.
